Magic Every Day

[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"39525","attributes":{"class":"media-image","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"300","height":"225","title":"Museum Fan","alt":"Museum Fan"}}]]Visiting The Children's Museum of Indianapolis feels like the holidays for us whenever we go. My four year old daughter squeals when she sees the dinosaurs out front smashing down the walls of the ordinary world to a land of magic. She gets especially excited when they wear their Santa hats. We always start with the dinosaurs (digging for bones), stopping in the trains (hoping the giant engine is about to come to life), and make our way to the new discovery area where she can be an Egyptologist, an undersea explorer and visit China in a matter of moments. If we are lucky, there is a play in the theater. She has met Oz’s Dorothy and Tigger and Pooh in person! Each floor is full of the magical lands, and during the holidays when the stairway is converted into a slide, we will wait through long lines and race to the bottom, only to rush back up and get in line again. Barbie is, of course, popular because there is a never-ending fashion show. She walks down the runway with authority, knowing that she is beautiful in the museum gowns. Getting wet in the science boat area is great, but absolutely nothing is stronger than the love she has for the Broadripple Park Carousel. She screams, “Giddy up" and “Whoa” as though commanding a real steed, even after we have ridden it three times. It's the princess crown on the royal museum land of imagination and education about the world.
