The first Mr. Potato Head toys included eyes, lips etc. and you supplied a potato to stick them into. You could reuse the same potato for a bit but eventually the potato got soft and had to be thrown away. My mother was OK with this for a while but between my sister and myself, we were using a lot of potatoes.
