The July 20th reunion party promises to be a big one. To celebrate the silver anniversary of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis Intern Program, 1,200 current and former interns around the world have been invited to an event just for them – an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and celebrate their many successes.
From 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Lilly Theater, a formal ceremony will honor the Intern Program and its participants. The ceremony will be followed by dinner and an opportunity for interns, mentors and their families to explore and enjoy the entire museum.
“Our interns are a valuable part of our education program, both internally and externally” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “Watching these young people grow into well-rounded professionals is extremely gratifying and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments. An added bonus is that training students on how to provide quality intergenerational family learning opportunities ensures that extraordinary experiences continue for generations to come.”
Last February, INTERNnet recognized the museum’s intern program as the 2012 Intern Program of the Year. In 2012 Vault, Inc. named The Children’s Museum as on the top 10 nonprofit internship programs in the nation.
The program is considered both rigorous and worthwhile by former interns such as Sommer Scarpino who said “One of the unique aspects of an internship is the opportunity to participate in Professional Development, a series of weekly workshops to prepare interns for careers. President and CEO Dr. Patchen leads several of these workshops and provides an excellent chance for interns to learn from his career.”
Former interns can be found around the world from Scotland to Australia. In fact, some are contributing to the museum blog, including 2005 intern Mary Wolfla who now resides in Perth, Australia.
