You can’t afford to miss it! The world’s largest children’s museum is the best in the U.S. according to several prestigious publications.
So far this year, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is ranked as one of the Top 10 museums or attractions in the nation by USA Today, US News & World Report, Parents magazine, Cultural Traveler magazine, and 10Best.com.
“We are honored that so many distinguished media outlets recognize the museum’s hard work and dedication in making each visit extraordinary for children and families,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “We take great pride in knowing that our exhibits and programs have touched so many people while transforming lives and inspiring families to explore the rich worlds of art, science, and world cultures.”
The Children's Museum received a huge endorsement from Cultural Traveler Magazine in January 2013. The magazine explored museums and attractions across the nation to determine the Top 10 Cultural Finds of 2013. The article describes a visit to the museum: "A visit will jump start your imagination with its innovative, interactive displays that encourage exploration, investigation and discovery."
In March 2013, 10Best.com proclaimed The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is one of the best museums in the country when it warned readers to not let the name fool you, “Adults and children of all ages enjoy viewing and participating in the many hands-on exhibits provided by this interesting museum.”
In June 2013, a USA Today article entitled 10 Great Family-friendly Museums awarded the museum high praise when honoring it as one of its Top 10 choices. “The world's largest children's museum has shifted its attention to focus on families, making sure that adults can join younger visitors in the experience.”
U.S. News & World Report included The Children’s Museum and its paleontologist-led dinosaur digs in its June edition when it selected 7 Fun and Educational Vacations. “Digging holes in the dirt in Faith, S.D… could yield some remarkable finds. Family dinosaur digs, organized by The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (the world's largest children's museum), will have you and your kids up to your knees in science.” Quoted in the article was a Yelp.com user volunteered, “A family trip to Indy wouldn't be complete without a stop at one of the best Children's museums in the world!" The reporter went on to say, “This pretty much sums it up. If you're in Indianapolis with kids, a visit to this museum is a must!”
When Parents magazine proclaimed Indianapolis was one of the 10 Best Cities for Families to Visit, the lead sentences were: “Who would have thought that the Indianapolis Children's Museum is the largest in the world? Plan to spend the whole day there checking out its five levels with 15-plus exhibit areas (including ones on dinos and trains).”
Active use of the museum’s extensive artifact collection (more than 120,000 artifacts in all) is a trademark of the museum as is the way actor/interpreters are used to help bring stories to life. The Children’s Museum enjoys more than 1.25 million visitors each year.
