Opens Dec. 31, 2024
In our first 100 years, The Children’s Museum has collected over 130,000 objects—and they all have stories to tell. In Memories, Wonders, and Dreams: Stories from 100 Years, learn the stories of 100 objects from our vast collection, a mix of never-before-seen objects, beloved museum icons (such as our historic Carousel), and artifacts from past exhibits. Objects in this bilingual exhibit are related to arts and culture, natural sciences, history, sports, and pop culture. See how these objects tell us stories about the past and prompt us to wonder about stories yet to come.
- A drum used in the Civil War
- A Hogwarts acceptance letter used in a Harry Potter movie
- Artwork by Muhammad Ali
- A pen used to sign the Civil Rights Act
- A porcupinefish—a curious specimen that was the first item in our collection
How do you narrow down 130,000-plus objects to focus only on 100? Several factors were considered, including whether the item reflected diversity of museum audiences, how compelling the object’s story was, how familiar audiences might be with the item, and how well the item could spark discussion among family members. We can't wait to hear your stories, too!
This special exhibit is part of our year-long centennial celebration, which kicks off Dec. 31, 2024, at Countdown to Noon.
