ALL THINGS DINOSAUR: Dinosaur Day in Indy, Dinosaur Play Everyday

They’re big, they’re fierce and after 150 million years, they’re back. While the NEW Dinosphere opens March 19th, there are some DINOmite things happening before then. Here’s a list:

  • March 12, Dinosaur Day in the city of Indianapolis: March 12, 2022 to be proclaimed Dinosaur Day by Indianapolis Mayor Joseph Hogsett. Video of his official proclamation at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis s Museum will be sent to media in time for the evening news.
  • March 15, Egg Hunt: March 15, 12:00 p.m. - In celebration of the opening of Dinosphere®, dinosaurs have laid 72 eggs all over your favorite downtown Indianapolis hotspots. The first person to find and claim each egg receives a FREE museum admission ticket and is entered to win one of two Children’s Museum membership! Take a photo with your egg and tag the museum on social media to receive an extra entry into the drawing. More info: https://www.childrensmuseum.org/dino-egg-hunt
  • March 15, Sound and Light Show, 8 & 9 p.m. - Get ready, Indy—dinosaurs are taking over Monument Circle! Using projection technology, a sound and light show will make it feel like the prehistoric past is busting through buildings and into our streets. The 45 second show will debut Saturday, March 15, 2022 and will air on additional dates throughout the summer.
  • March 17, 18, Member Preview Days for the NEW Dinosphere®:

10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. - Museum members get an exclusive opportunity to explore the New Dinosphere – reserve tickets in advance as capacity is limited due to social distancing

  • March 18, Thunderclap Moment: 10 a.m. - We are asking everyone to spread the word about opening day across their social media channels on the same date and time creating a big THUNDERCLAP. This social media buzz will help build excitement around Dinosphere® and create a sense of Indianapolis comradery. Here is the copy we suggest everyone could copy and paste:

  • March 18, Jurassic Jubilee: 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. – A family-friendly celebration of all things dinosaur – featuring exclusive access to NEW Dinsophere®.There will be special programs and food along with entertainment and dancing. Members get a steep discount (https://www.childrensmuseum.org/visit/calendar/event/272)
  • March 19 and 20, NEW Dinosaur® Opening Celebration with giveaways (including shirts) while supplies last. Special activities from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Reserve tickets in advance due to capacity with social distancing.
  • March 19, Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience Opening Day-Before or after a visit to the NEW Dinosphere®, head outside to make memories together in the 5 acre sports utopia now celebrating its fifth season.
  • March 19, Dino Planet: A Mission Jurassic Experience (Atrium Show) - Travel back in time, 165 million years to discover first-hand what life was like for the Jurassic giants! Experience encounters with a sauropod baby and an adolescent to discover how these giants grew to such an immense size! Weekends and peak days at 12:00 p.m.and
  • March 25 and 26, Monument Circle Window Display - Beginning at 8:00 p.m., the AES building located on Monument Circle is going green for dinos! Our partners at AES will light up their windows to spell out DINOS! to celebrate the opening of Dinosphere®.
  • Now through April 4, great photo opportunity - Be the “I” in INDY when you get your picture taken with the NDY sculpture with dinosaurs peeking into the museum as your backdrop.
  • Now Showing! Mission Jurassic: The Documentary - Explore the Jurassic Mile™ dig site in Wyoming without leaving your home! We’ve created a special mini-documentary about the making of Dinosphere®—from digging the fossils, to putting them on display, and everything in between!
