My parents gave me a paint by number set consisting of two pictures of covered bridges. After meticulously completing the first picture, which had hundreds of discrete areas to paint, I was disappointed that I couldn't make out the covered bridge. My mother assured me that if I just backed away from the painting, I could see the bridge, and sure enough she was right. This was my first awareness of how Impressionist paintings were made!
