We moved into the Indianapolis area to start a family. We had a daughter (born in August of 2008) and started looking for a place where she could learn, be creative, challenge herself and get to know and interact with her peers.
Growing up, we did not have a place like this in our town. A place that could teach her about so many things, in a way that could be so engaging. We are so lucky to have found that exact kind of place in the The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. As soon as we get in the left turn lane at Meridian and 30th St, she spots the Dinospehere dome and knows she is getting ready to have a fantastic time! She enjoys the height of the parking garage, the skywalk with the automatic doors and the ramp that takes her to the dinosaurs peeking through the windows. It seems like once we hit the lobby, there is always something new waiting for her. This last visit was Bumblebee from the Transformers movie.
We like to start with the train in the basement and work our way up until we hit the carousel. We stop along the way to admire the height, the color and the intricacy of the Chihuly glass work. In between we try to see something new each time. Its interesting what can be learned in the most simple of places. We were able to teach her about magnets using the fish and the poles that are found in the water section of Playscape. Our daughter has already walked the runway with Barbie, built with Bob the Builder, flown Egypt Air and walked the rain forest. We are very thankful for the membership that we have at the museum and always look forward to the next time we can explore together as a family.
