Symphony on the Prairie

Star-Spangled Symphony at Conner Prairie
June 30–July 3
Be a part of one of Indiana’s favorite patriotic celebrations! Get ready to celebrate July 4th as Kroger Symphony on the Prairie presents the Star-Spangled Symphony with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. With Conductor Alfred Savia and vocalist Vanessa Thomas, the night ends with an exciting fireworks finale to the 1812 Overture. Lawn tickets only.



Museum My Way at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
July 11, 4–7 p.m.

Museum My Way is included with museum admission and is weather-dependent. Capacity limited. Registration required.

This special event is an opportunity for visitors with disabilities and/or sensory sensitivities to experience the museum in a new way. Families and groups of all abilities are welcome to play and learn together!

Sensory modifications to the museum environment include:

  • Limited capacity
  • Quiet area with sensory items
  • Some music is turned down or off
  • Edited lighting effects in some areas



Family Discovery Day: Space

July 22, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Through hands-on activities, learn about space discoveries from our solar system to vast galaxies. Step into a StarLab and gaze upon the stars above with guided stories, and hear from a space expert. Find out about the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024 and how you can get ready for it! 

 



Canal Nights at the Indiana State Museum

July (Wednesdays), 5–7 p.m.

Free admission

Join museum staff and community partners along the canal walk outside of the museum on Wednesday nights in July for a combination of family-friendly outdoor activities and themed, hands-on experiments including Democracy Day, Chemistry is Everywhere, Global Gathering, and Superhero Night! 



Miró at Fort Wayne Museum of Art 
Now–July 9

Enjoy the magical art of William Sherman Dutterer (1943-2007) who was an expert at wordplay, and a prolific visual punster, in his nautical exhibit, “Below the Surface: A Deep See”. Dutterer’s highly inventive work, whether in the form of elegant minimalism, funky renewed figuration, or cryptic personal iconography explores the pathos of the human condition.



The National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series at Newfields 

Now–Aug. 25, Doors at 7 pm, the film begins at dusk

A favorite Indy summer tradition, The National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series returns this year to Newfields on Fridays and select Saturdays this June, July, and August. Bring your family and friends to watch movies under the stars. All you need is a chair or a blanket, and a pillow or two; snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Come early to play a round of trivia, learn a new dance, savor your own picnic (with non-alcoholic beverages only), snap a selfie in a photo booth, or enjoy the sunset. For those who like to be prepared, sunscreen and bug spray are always a good idea.

Explore a captivating and influential view of America through the lens of legendary documentary photographer, Dorothea Lange. Join Jessica Nelson, Ph.D., museum director of religion and culture initiatives, for a ‘Behind the Scenes Tour’ of the Changing Views exhibition.
