On our first trip to the Indianapolis Children's Museum, we became members. My wife and I were in awe of the fabulous time our children, Justin and Jordan had. They could not and have not stopped asking to go back.
On our second trip we saw even more than the first trip. What sticks our in my minds and the mind of our son Justin, is the workshop we attended that thaught us about our different characteristics and how we are different and yet the same as others through our DNA makeup. The program was introduced to our children by having them roll their tongues, talking about the color of the hair and eyes. They enjoyed making their bracelets and having the family wear them. They are still laying on their dressers and the gear shift of my car.
This was about a month ago. The other night we were watching the evening news and a report came on the TV. My wife and I were busy fixing dinner when Justin started yelling, "Mommy, Mommy! Look!!" Rachel turned around and said "Look at what Justin?" He pointed to the TV and said "look, its DNA." Much to our suprise, he was right. We looked up and they were showing a picture of a Double Helix.
I asked him how he knew that was DNA. He replied with a little grin, "Don't you remember? At the Children's Museum where we made our bracelets." I then asked him what is DNA? His reply was "Its that Swirly Ladder thing in our bodies. You know, it tells us what color hair we have and how healthy our bodies will be." I looked at Rachel. We both started laughing and told Justin "you are absolutly right buddy."
Justin is 6 years old and will be attending the 1st grade. He has already expressed and interest in architecture.
