Horsey Up and Down

Living in Indy my whole life I have had my fair share of visits to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Whether it was visiting for fun with my parents and sister, visiting with friends or on a field trip, the Children's Museum never disappoints. So after the birth of my daughter you can imagine my excitement to take her to the museum for the first time. My expectations were so high I couldn’t contain myself. I KNOW I was way more excited than she was and I was ok with that. I knew that we would have a great time.

Skip ahead to the trip… We visited all of the age appropriate displays, played in the Playscape and had lunch. Our last stop was to the Carousel. My daughter rode one of the stationary horses and my camera was full from all our adventures that day. When it was time to leave I was pretty disappointed. My daughter did not really seem like she had any fun. I was expecting huge smiles and many happy laughs but all I got was the average responses. As we neared the exit I noticed that my daughter was starting to throw a fit. Not sure why, I just assumed it was because she did not get to get a toy from the gift shop. I asked her what was wrong. She was crying because we were leaving!!! I was thrilled!!! She really did like it and she was throwing the mother of all tantrums on the floor because we were going to the car. I must have looked like a crazy lady because I was smiling so much with my daughter lying on the floor crying. I got to hear sobs of “go back to Horsey Up and Down” all the way home and for a few days after.

Since that day we have purchased a membership and have visited often. We have had MANY discussions about not crying when we leave because we can always come back to “Horsey Up and Down.” And yes, we do call it “Horsey Up and Down.”
