I grew up in South Bend and came to visit my grandparents who lived here in Indianapolis. I have fond memories of visiting the Children's Museum of Indianapolis with them. I would walk the ramp up and run down the orange carpet lined ramps and get dizzy on the way down. The highlights of the museum back then of course were the trains and the carousel. My grandfather grew up near Indianapolis and used to ride it back before it was even at the museum. Every time we pass along the window boxes telling about how the carousel started I tell my kids about how their great grandpa used to ride it and how their grandma rode it and then he would take me to the museum and I would ride it. They think it is so neat to think about how so many people in their family have ridden on the same carousel. Four generations have built memories with one single gem that currently provides many smiles and memories for all who ride it. I can only hope that when they are grown with children they can take their children as well and continue for generations to come.
