History of Paper Flowers in Mexico
Folk Art is an art form created by people who are self-taught, they did not go to art school to learn how to make their creations. Paper flowers are a folk art from Mexico. Mexico is a very diverse country in North America, which is home to over 50 ethnic groups! Paper flowers are created out of tissue or crepe paper to decorate at parties, like weddings and religious ceremonies. Follow the steps below to create your own!
Supplies Needed:
- Three pieces of tissue paper
- Pipe cleaner
- Tape
- Marker
Directions:
- Stack three pieces of tissue paper together.
- Fan fold paper back and forth like an accordion until all the sheets have been folded together.
- Fold a pipe cleaner in half. This is used for the flower stem. Squeeze the tissue paper in the middle and twist the pipe cleaner around the bunched paper tightly to secure.
- Separate the pieces of paper on both sides of the pipe cleaner to create petals, remember there are four layers. Start with the top tissue, being careful not to tear it. After you have done the top layer, go on to the second layer, then the third and the fourth.
You can even scrunch them a bit to make them look more realistic.
