Your are in a room filled with microscopes, pencils, magnifying glasses, computers, a video camera, and even a green screen to report your findings to the world. Scientists and archaeologists ask for your help in uncovering some of the most treasured artifacts and cultures in the world. You accept the challenge and put on your archaeologist badge. Six, yes, six hands-on experiments and activities await you! You take a good look around the room and discover a tiny clay body with a mouse next to it. Eek! What could this be?
You have just experienced your first inquiry inside of SciencePort Headquarters. It's a hidden gem within The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. If you love hands-on science, then you need to travel up the red staircase in ScienceWorks! A whole world of science and technology awaits you!
Our newest SciencePort experience allows you to create a Terra Cotta Warrior, solve a puzzle on the Smartboard, which is a huge touchscreen computer, and make a mummy using stop motion animation! And that's just a few of the things you can try! So bring your family to do kid friendly experiments, navigate science websites for kids, and dig deeper to study some of the archaeological elements of National Geographic Treasures of the Earth. Sometimes we even move to the Archaeology Lab inside of Treasures of the Earth to do more investigating, and you can join us there too! We'll look at pollen samples similiar to those found in the Terra Cotta Warriors, create tracings of Seti I's tomb walls, and even see a piece of Captain Kidd's ship!
So what are you waiting for? Grab your grown-up, put on your thinking cap, and make the climb. MuseumPort staff will be thrilled to see you walk through the "Gateway of Extraordinary Learning", otherwise known as SciencePort.
