Grab Your Dance Shoes for Six Iconic Dances Through the Decades
This blog will help you get ready to dance through the decades in our temporary exhibit DANCE!—or at home! But you don’t have to lace up your dancin’ shoes—when you're at home your socks will do! Here are six dances you can learn in the exhibit or in your own living room:
The 1920s - The Charleston
The Charleston was all the rage back in the day! Put on your pearls and kick up your heels with these go-to moves at your next Gatsby party.
The 40s - The Swing
It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing! Grab a partner and twirl around with this upbeat dance epidemic of the 40s.
The 50s/60s - The Twist
C’mon baby, let’s do the Twist! The Twist was among the first dances learned from TV! Chubby Checker ignited the sensation from his performance on the Dick Clark Show.
The 70s - The Hustle
Put on your over-sized sunglasses, comb back your slick hair, and get ready for a boogie beneath the disco ball. The Hustle ruled the dance floors in the 70s. Just ask Tony Manero (John Travolta) from Saturday Night Fever.
The 90s - Macarena
You may never be able to sing the lyrics to the Los del Río hit of the 90s fast enough, but you will ALWAYS know the moves—Hey, Macarena! This dance ruled at all kinds of events, from ball-game crowds to wedding receptions!
The 2000s - The Chicken Noodle Soup
Unfortunately we don’t allow cans of soda in the exhibit, but if you’re doing The Chicken Noodle Soup from home, crack open your favorite fizzy can with these viral YouTube moves from the new millennium!
Learn all the moves before you visit DANCE!, and be the best-stepping family on the exhibit dance floors! Hurry in to get in the groove and bust a move!
