We first became members at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis in the Summer of 2010. At the time, our children were 5, 2 and half, and 8 months old. On our first ever family visit to the museum we went immediately, of course, to the Dinosphere. As a completely immersive environment, it can't be topped. As proof of this, I'd like to share the story of Isabel's, our middle daughter, experience.
The rain storm was just starting as we wandered in, and the sound of thunder immediately captivated all the children. They cast about looking for water drops, and were confused when we couldn't find any. The dinosaur skeletons towered over them, and their faces were the very pictures of awe. So far, it was all good fun. And then, Stomp! Isabel asked, "Papa, what was that?" in a concerned voice. "It's a dinosaur", I whispered. "Where?", she questioned. All the fun was still there in her face, but it was slowly being joined by dread. "I think they're behind the rocks over there," I said, pointing to one of the outcroppings. Stomp! Roar! "Is he going to get me?" "Oh, not if you're careful. Just be nice and quiet, and he'll leave us alone." At this she switched instantly to the quiet mode, shoulders hunched, head tilted slightly downward while listening for the sound of the dinosaur. Stomp! Roar! She stood stock still and and waited for the dinosaur to pass. After a short time the stomping ceased and she was at ease again, smiling while still watchful.
Today, every time we visit the Children's Museum, we stop by and see the Dinosphere. According to Isabel, there are real dinosaurs there. You'll be fine, as long as you are nice and quiet.
