We received this question from Leia, age 3:
How does the Tyrannosaurus rex scratch his nose?
Our team of paleontologists explains:
Nothing is worse than an itch you can't scratch. And with those tiny arms a T. rex certainly couldn't reach up to scratch his nose. So what might a T. rex do?
A T. rex could rub his nose against a tree, or maybe even drag his nose across the ground. But our favorite idea? A parent scratched it for them.
Paleontologists have long thought Tyrannosaurus rex was a social animal. They probably lived and hunted in family groups. We also know that dinosaurs are related to birds and that birds can be very caring and attentive parents. (ave you heard of the phrase "mother hen"?
So it’s nice to think that a T. rex might get a little help scratching an itchy nose!
