100 Children scroll

How better to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis than with this 100 Children scroll? Painted on silk in 1824 in Ch’ing (Qing) Dynasty China by an anonymous artist, it depicts 100 children playing with traditional Chinese toys and games. It was previously displayed in the Take Me There®: China exhibit from 2014 to 2018. A close look at the groupings of figures reveals that, while their clothes may look like they’re from another place and era, the ways children play are universal and timeless.
