Babe Ruth autographed baseball
George Herman Ruth (1895–1948) was one of baseball’s all-time greats. Nicknamed “Babe” in 1914, as well as “the Bambino” and “the Sultan of Swat,” his left-arm pitching and powerful hitting were invaluable assets to the Boston Red Sox (1914–1919) and the New York Yankees (1919–1936.)
During Ruth’s career, he received lots of attention in the press, both for his work on the field and his partying off the field. Ruth was often the center of attention and is quoted as saying, “Maybe ballplayers like myself have a touch of the ham in them or maybe a touch of the fire horse. But there’s something about a big crowd and an event that everybody is watching or reading about or listening to. Things like that always made me want to do my best.”
Fans followed Ruth everywhere and he was prolific in providing them with autographs. Today, they remain highly prized by collectors of sports memorabilia. This baseball was signed by Babe Ruth while he played for the New York Yankees in the 1930s.
