Kite Building Craft Kit

From its founding up to the present day, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has been able to bring educational experiences to families and children because of the generous support of people in the community. The Children’s Museum Guild, which today supports the museum through the oldest annual haunted house in the nation, made and sold these Japanese kite craft kits in the 1950s as an early educational and fundraising project.

Jen Triplett, 2024 Guild chair, reflected on the Guild’s legacy of generosity: “I feel a tremendous amount of pride when I look back at the Guild’s fundraising efforts over the years to support the museum. The Guild’s first fundraiser [beginning in 1946] was a dance with a birthday theme. They added the Fall Fashion Show in 1949 and then changed to the Haunted House in 1964. The Haunted House has grown significantly since it began and we are always trying to find new activities or events to add to the month to raise more money.”
