Unleash your family's curiosity and embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure! This unique family dino dig experience allows you to dig for fossils alongside our expert paleontologists at an active dig site in Northern Wyoming. Perfect for families with children age 8 and up, this program combines education with excitement, making it the ideal gift for those who crave unforgettable experiences. 

Here's what you'll do:

• Meet the team of museum paleontologists
• Receive instructions on how to search for and identify fossils
• Learn about and use the tools used to excavate fossils
• Dig for dinosaur bones
• Document what you found

All participants must be in good health and be able to walk moderate distances, kneel, or sit for long periods of time, and tolerate high temperatures. 

Must be age 8 and up—no exceptions!

Fees

Museum members: $1100 per person

Nonmembers: $1375 per person

Fees include ground transportation from Lovell, Wyoming, to the site and back, lunches, and all supplies needed to dig. Fees do not include travel to and from Wyoming, lodging, or meals. 

Accommodations

Families are responsible for getting to Lovell, Wyoming and for their own lodging reservations. The Travelodge by Wyndham Lovell/Bighorns is recommended.

Trip itinerary

8 a.m.—Trip departs from the Travelodge Inn in Lovell, WY
4 p.m.—Trip returns to the Travelodge Inn in Lovell, WY

Digging at the site is weather dependent. If a dig day is cancelled due to weather conditions, refunds will not be given. Alternative programming will be provided.

Trip orientation

Information sessions will be offered virtually during several evenings in May. An in-person orientation will take place in the museum’s Paleo Lab on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Specific details will be provided to registered participants in the spring.
