The world’s biggest children’s museum brings you the world’s best-selling video game—Minecraft: The Exhibition. Explore the limitless possibilities and tell your own story as you develop problem-solving skills, discover new design concepts, and create innovative solutions to real-world problems in this one-of-a-kind exhibit.

Let’s take a quick tour through this new exhibit so you’ll know what you can find and where you can find it when you visit The Children’s Museum.

The layout for Minecraft: The Exhibition is broken up into five different areas. Each area focuses on a different theme related to the game and its impact around the world.These are the different areas you’ll find in Minecraft: The Exhibition:

* Adults are not permitted to wear costume masks at any time; Youth may wear costume mask
* Staff may caution mask wearers that they may want to remove their masks if their vision is inhibited.
* Adults must carry any toy weapons or props while walking through the exhibit and the museum. 
* No toy guns allowed in the building at any time.

What is Minecraft?

More than an engaging adventure and exploration game, Minecraft is a platform for creative expression and community building. In this area, you’ll find an overview of the game and its key concepts.

Interactive time-lapse video
Take control of a step-by-step film that highlights what you can create in Minecraft. You can slow it down, rewind, speed it up, and pause as you discover how complex environments can be in the game.

Minecraft cube
Ever wonder how big a physical Minecraft cube is? You don’t have to wonder anymore! Check out a scale example of the cube and discover how the size of Minecraft objects compare to the real world. 

Then explore a house built in the block style of the game.

Biomes display
Examine wall displays that highlight various biomes—types of environments, from bamboo jumble, to snowy taiga, to warm ocean, and everything in between—found in the world of Minecraft.

Photo opportunities
Throughout the exhibit, you’ll find life-size Minecraft creatures and immersive environments that are waiting for you to strike a pose. Don’t forget to share your photos and tag us with #atTCM on your favorite social media platform!

  • Zombies are one of the most common hostile mobs in Minecraft

Core Concepts

Explore the two main game modes of Minecraft—Creator and Survival modes— and discover how to craft objects in the game.

Crafting table interactive
Discover how the crafting system works in Minecraft by combining different materials on a life-sized crafting table. For example, learn how to create a classy upgrade to your cozy Minecraft abode by crafting a lantern. 

At the crafting table interactive, you can explore how different materials can combine to create new objects. 

Minecraft is Your Story

Because Minecraft is what you make it, this area is all about you and what you want to do with the game. Here, you have the opportunity to play the game on your own. You can also choose to watch others play. It’s your choice.”

Gaming stations
Whether you’re a Minecraft expert or just learning the ropes, you can play the game at one of 16 gaming stations in this area. Each station has a specific challenge for you to complete.

Multiplayer station
You can embark on a multiplayer adventure with other players on the same screen while using a special edition Minecraft Xbox console.

Punch-a-Tree 
In the real world, punching a tree to gather wood is a painfully bad idea. Here? Well, you’ll want to give it a try!

Photo opportunity

  • See how you measure up against an Iron Golem that protects villages from hostile mobs and enemies

Minecraft is Limitless

When Minecraft launched, it had no help documents and no instructions. Players had to figure the game out by trial and error. Many of those players leapt to the internet to share their trials and seek solace for their errors. In this area, you’ll discover how a worldwide community grew around this sandbox game, and learn about Minecraft’s influence on popular TV shows and movies.

iPad gaming stations
There are six iPads available for you to give the mobile version of Minecraft a try. Each station has specific challenges for you to complete.

Creeper wall
Stand face-to-face with the game’s most-popular mob. Be sure to grab a photo before time runs out and…BOOM!

The Nether Portal 
Walk through a portal and enter the Nether region—a fiery realm reminiscent of mythological underworlds.

Infinity Mine
Discover the treasure trove of resources that await underground.

Photo opportunities

  • Keep your head up and you’ll find a sculpture of one of the rare flying mobs in Minecraft—the Phantom
  • You’ll also find an ethereal Enderman mob in this area
  • Say “Cheese!” with Skeleton, an always smiling (but never laughing) hostile mob
  • Pose with the versatile, fashionable, and photogenic Llama mob
  • It’s simple math: Zombie+Pig=Zombie Pigman mob
  • A photo with a mine cart will make it look like you’re inside an Infinity Mine 

Building a Better World

Did you know Minecraft can be used in schools and to help solve community problems all over the world? In this area of the exhibit, you can dig in and explore the ways Minecraft is helping us build a better world.

Earth Cube display
Search a cubic representation of Earth and see how different cities have used Minecraft as a resource to benefit their own communities.


Gaming station
Complete specific challenges while playing Minecraft: Education Edition how  it can be used in the classroom.
