Fasten Your Seat Belt, New Planetarium Show Sends Visitors to the Moon!

Experience the thunderous launch, feel the softer lunar touchdown, and whirl around the Moon during the newest full-dome show landing at SpaceQuest® Planetarium.

Award-winning actor Tim Allen (and voice of spaceman Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story movie series) narrates Back To The Moon For Good, a new 25-minute film which chronicles the history of moon exploration and renewed international interest in lunar research, and encourages a new generation of space explorers to “shoot for the moon.”

Back To The Moon For Good highlights several international teams of engineers and entrepreneurs vying for the $30 million dollar Google Lunar XPRIZE. To win the prize, a team must successfully land a robotic spacecraft on the Moon, travel 500 meters over the lunar surface and transmit video and images back to Earth in high definition.

It’s been 42 years since a human walked on the moon.  Apollo 17 commander Eugene Cernan took the last lunar steps on December 14, 1972.  As Back To The Moon For Good shows those human footprints exactly as they were left, the planetarium program ends with a look to the future by presenting a visualization of what a settlement on the Moon might look like.  As Dr. Wolf says “There is nothing like space to ignite imagination.”

*From March 20-April 6 2014, Back To The Moon For Good will be presented daily at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.  It will be presented on weekends only during April and May, then daily during the summer of 2014.  Planetarium programs are free with general museum admission.
