We need your face! Look cute, look funny, look serious, look happy, look any way you want when you become a Terra Cotta Warrior at Indianapolis International Airport.
Travelers and visitors to the airport are invited to lend their faces to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ new online campaign to post 8,000 modern day faces on social media to represent the 8,000 individual faces of the magnificent ancient Terra Cotta army unearthed in China’s Shaanxi Province and often referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World.
Real Terra Cotta Warriors are marching to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis for a blockbuster exhibit premiering May 10, 2014. Visitors to the museum will be the only ones in the United States to see magnificent terra cotta soldiers, terra cotta horses and additional priceless artifacts in 2014.
In preparation for the significant arrival of the authentic soldiers, a warrior cutout has been installed for photo opportunities. By sharing their photos on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #8000Warriors, shutterbugs and their “ warrior-models” will help build a modern day “photo army.” The Children’s Museum’s goal is to set a record for most pictures ever submitted to a museum social media campaign.
“We are pleased to partner with one of the most iconic institutions in our community to create a fun, interactive exhibit in Civic Plaza, the heart of our airport,” said Marsha Stone, senior director of commercial enterprise for the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “This display will complement the many other elements that help keep IND at the top of passengers’ lists of favorite airports, including our extensive art program, live musical performances, top-notch shopping and dining program, and the award-winning design of the terminal itself.”
Look for the life-size, six foot tall, Terra Cotta Warrior replica beside the photo cutout. A short, informative video explains the fascinating history of the terracotta “army” built by the first emperor of China to protect him in the after-life.

It is our hope travelers will consider a return visit to our great city and one of the state’s top cultural tourism destinations - the world’s largest children’s museum - sometime between May and November of 2014 to see magnificent ancient artifacts from one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of our time” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
On Wednesday, November 27, 2013, one of the busiest days of the year at Indianapolis International Airport, travelers will be treated to two live dragon-themed dances performed by members of Indianapolis Chinese Community Center, Inc. Performances are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
