Happy Holidays! Come talk to Santa, enjoy Jolly Days Winter Wonderland and explore the world’s largest children’s museum free of charge on select nights thanks to the generosity of Target. Please note the museum also offers free admission on the day before Christmas (December 24) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
WHAT: Free Admission, December 4, 2014 from 4 p.m . - 8 p.m. only
WHERE: The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN
DETAILS: Many activities to enjoy include:
- Yule Slide
Zip down the Yule Slide lickety-split to see who can make it to the bottom of the 47 foot long slide. To ensure that all children and families, regardless of income, can experience the museum, we have created the Share Your Slide Challenge. The challenge is simple. Visit and ride! Between November 22 and December 31, we need at least 90,000 visitors to ride down the Yule Slide. If we meet our goal, our efforts will be matched through generous donors. If you visit and ride, you can help us provide free admission to all children and families on December, 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.! You can Make Your Slide Count in the following ways: - Share a picture and use the #Myslidecounts hashtag on social media
- Donate spare change or dollars in the box at the bottom of the slide
- Visit www.childrensmuseum.org to make a small donation
- Elf in Training!
Children and families will be greeted by a Gallery Facilitator or Guild Member dressed as the “Head Elf.” They will be encouraged to earn their elf ears by gaining experience with the various winter activities in the gallery. Once they complete the interactions together within the gallery, they can return and test their new knowledge with the Head Elf to earn a pair of their own very own elf ears and their elf name. - Snowball Fight!
Gallery Facilitators dressed in referee shirts will lead children and families in a safe snowball fight on the indoor ‘ice skating pond’ using 3” craft pom-poms. As the game continues, new rules and demands will be placed on the teams such as: no right hands or kids vs. grown-ups! - Winter Characters
Characters associated with the winter or the holiday season such as Mrs. Claus, Zazzles the Elf and Jack Frost will enhance the guest experience with special appearances in Jolly Days and around the Mezzanine. They may engage in casual conversation related to their character’s story or they may perform a short story, song or activity based on visitation levels, space within the gallery and guest interest. The characters have “trading cards” for children and families to collect. Each card requests that a family complete a Jolly Days task related to that character. For example, character Patty Cakes asks families to take a photo of a holiday treat they create or share a favorite holiday recipe #JollyDays. All #JollyDays submissions will be entered into a drawing for a family museum membership. - Giant Snow Globe
As you enter the Sunburst Atrium, be sure to press the magic button on the giant snow globe to make it snow, snow, snow on some of your favorite Jolly Days characters.
