Blast off to a world where science fiction meets science fact. Beginning March 12, 2016, families who explore The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ newest exhibit, Alien Worlds and Androids, will have an “out of this world” experience as they join scientists in a search for alien life on Earth and far beyond our solar system. Learn more about the technologies used to examine the universe and Earth’s extreme environments, and as a result of those technologies, see the discoveries of alien-like creatures found on our own planet.
Look for answers to weighty questions, such as: Are we alone in the universe? How close are we to discovering new alien worlds and alien life? What inspires scientists, science fiction writers and filmmakers? What might the rover CURIOSITY find on Mars? Alien Worlds and Androids, produced by Global Experience Specialists (GES), invites families to explore the cutting-edge science taking place right now at NASA and its Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
As science fiction becomes less fiction and more fact, determine the difference between robots and androids with their artificial intelligence and discover how both technologies have been developed. Life size replicas of Iron Man, C-3PO and R2D2 from Star Wars movies, and a replica T-800 bust from The Terminator franchise present great learning opportunities and “selfie” photo opportunities. Star Trek fans will smile when they spy the jacket Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) wore in the 2009 film Star Trek: Into the Darkness. Visitors are encouraged to build an alien, touch a meteorite, operate a robotic arm, and sit in a POD to experience the feeling of the amazing journey CURIOSTY endured to land on Mars.
“The Children’s Museum is committed to providing families and children opportunities to become immersed in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. This interactive and engaging exhibit will ignite scientific curiosity as it entertains visitors with iconic robots, androids, and super heroes from their favorite sci-fi films as well as real science,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum.
Alien Worlds and Androids lands in The Children’s Museum for Spring Break from March 12-May 1, 2016.
