Science, technology, engineering and math careers are transforming the world in which we live. For families and children to thrive and compete with other nations, we must have a better understanding of those concepts and how we may play a bigger part. With the help of The Heritage Group, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is launching a new strategic initiative that promises to open up a new world of possibilities for its visitors.
The Children’s Museum is proud to announce the establishment of the Heritage Group Center for Family Learning in STEM.
The new initiative firmly enhances and incorporates STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning throughout the museum’s world-class exhibits. New science programs will be researched and created for teachers, school groups and visiting children and families.
“The Heritage Group Center For Family Learning in STEM is helping to foster relationships and programs that will put our visitors face-to-face with more real-life scientists and experts who are changing the world as a result of their research,” said Dr. Jeffrey H. Patchen, president and CEO, The Children’s Museum. "Nowhere else in the world can children and families learn together about the science that reveals the fascinating mysteries of history while also understanding how science, technology, engineering and math can help us chart an exciting future for all.”
From dinosaurs to outer space, an extraordinary gift from the internationally renowned and locally-owned corporation ensures the future of cutting edge STEM education and research at the museum. The new initiative will allow the museum to deepen its relationships with today's STEM experts, develop new partnerships with additional experts, and continue to create new STEM programming.
“Engineering and science have always been at the core of our business foundation and we want to support our employees and their families in the communities in which they work and live,” said Amy Schumacher, president of The Heritage Group. “The ability to contribute to a STEM-based project in our home city of Indianapolis, and with our trusted partner The Children's Museum, is a unique ‘win-win’ opportunity for us to give back to our community. We are excited to be partnering with the museum on The Heritage Group Center for Family Learning in STEM, and look forward to the new learning opportunities that will be available to all visitors.”
Some of the life sciences initiatives already growing at The Children's Museum thanks to the generosity of the Heritage Group Center include the recently premiered permanent experience Beyond Spaceship Earth, and the invaluable partnerships with distinguished scientists such as former NASA astronaut, medical doctor and engineer Dr. David Wolf, and globally recognized paleontologists Drs. Phil Manning and Victoria Egerton.
Soon, The Children's Museum will open yet another Science-based exhibit, called Dow AgroSciences ScienceWorks. This is yet another example of STEM growth made possible by having a clear vision and strategic plan in place for science, technology, engineering and math.
