It would be difficult to pick just one awe-inspiring moment from our many, many visits to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis that have left a lasting impression on our son (or on us). Every time we visit, it seems there is something new (or old) that piques David's interest.
Ever since he was old enough to crawl around in Playscape and haul himself up on the mats, we've been fascinated watching David experience new things. We ourselves learned that if you're going to play at the water table, make sure you're done playing at the sand table first.
Whether he's just figured out how to balance items on a scale at the Egyptian market, discovered how to make a duckbill call to its baby, stood in awe in front of Darth Vader's uniform (OK, I was the one who geeked out over that), or boldly made his way through the Haunted House, David often recounts memories of many of his trips to the Children's Museum. We know each of these instances leave a lasting impression on him.
He has become especially enamored of the dinosaur dig, and we knew he'd found a real interest in paleontology the first time he spent 45 minutes wielding a brush and goggles and sweeping away tiny bits to uncover a tail bone. He took great pleasure in passing along his newly-acquired information to anyone--child or adult--who joined him at the dig site.
At the most random of times, he'll bring up the time he built an arch out of big blocks, or he'll ask whether a circular bench in another museum spins like the one at the Children's Museum. He uses Bumblebee as a unit of measurement...as in "That telephone is at least as tall as Bumblebee".
As he continues to grow, we continue to watch our son wonder, explore, and learn each time we visit. He knows this museum is a special place, and we love that there is a spark every time we visit.
