Our homeschooling family believes the holidays can be both at The Childrens Museum of Indianapolis. Our favorite memory as a family is when we brought a few friends and had an entire day of warm fun on a cold winter day. This was the winter just after 9/11 terrorist attacks. We spent the entire day there. Maybe we were looking for a distraction from all of the stress and fear of that time. But we found much more and made many good memories that day. My children (as well as their little friends) had been exposed to some pretty rough stuff on TV with all of the constant news reports. Even while trying to keep most of the news from them, so that we could deliver it more carefully to such tender hearts, it wasn't easy and they seemed to always see enough or hear enough to create a ton of questions that were incredibly difficult to answer. The Children's Museum reminded them that while its ok to be afraid, there are fun and safe places to just be kids again. In a world where so much can go wrong, it's such a joy to know there are some places that are simply “right.” We thank God for The Childrens Musem continuing to be a blessing to our family and our community---and even to the world, as it offers all of us a chance to learn about so much!
