I had been my daughter's Brownie Girl Scout leader for several years. The last field trip we took during her third grade year was in early 2009. The girls were typical third graders, loud, proud, crazy, and fun. We spent the whole day running around The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, exploring. Near the end of the day, we were on the first floor, and it was finally quiet. Why? The girls were lounging on the chairs in a circle, staring at the blown glass above them, eyes wide, looks of awe on their faces. Yes, we had loud and crazy fun all day, but that moment is the one I remember the most, the one with smiles on their faces. Of course, after a few minutes, it was back to crazy girl times. But that was ok. It was the last trip we took. Soon afterwards, I lost my right leg in an automobile accident after a lady ran a stop sign. I had to let go of some responsibilities; unfortunately, being a Girl Scout leader was one of them. My energy just wasn't there any more. I am more like myself now, working and parenting, but I miss those girls, their energy, life, and curiousity, which fit in perfectly with the Children's Museum of Indianapolis.
