Greece at a Glance: The Greek Homes

With the grand opening of Take Me There®: Greece finally here, we wanted to show how years of dedicated research and collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports have helped make this exhibit a reality. In this blog series, we’ll show you how we’ve used the research our staff has done abroad to create this snapshot of life in modern Greece. We’ll also give you a closer look at some of the unique experiences we have in store for you and your family!

The Greek Homes

Be immersed in the daily life of Greece as you explore replicas of two Greek homes in two unique communities. The most extraordinary thing? All of the rooms in these model homes are based on real Greek homes as documented by our researchers.

There are two replica homes, each representing a different region in Greece: one from the big city of Athens and one from the smaller town of Ancient Corinth. Try finding out what life in each home has in common with your life and what they have in common with each other.

Watch the video below to see how we recreated real-life Greek homes.

Step inside a replica of the Kotopoulos family’s apartment and discover some of the items you might find in a typical Athenian home. Explore a replica of a Greek child’s room and learn about their school life, sports, and hobbies. Talk to the Kotopoulos family through a touchscreen and ask them questions about their traditions, family, and more.

In our Ancient Corinth model home, experience what life is like in a small Greek village. “Meet” the Tzonou-Herbst family and learn about their daily life, their favorite foods, and the sports they like to play. Ancient Corinth is a town that has been around for thousands of years, so their archeological sites are filled with remnants from past civilizations. Learn about how archeologists uncover the different civilizations that have called Greece home with a touchscreen game featuring a Greek archeological site.
