Hands-On Science and Investigating Flight!

If you’ve been to The Children's Museum of Indianapolis lately, you may have noticed something very intriguing in the Sunburst Atrium. We have been testing a wind tunnel that will be used next year for an exciting new program called Curious Scientific Investigators (CSI): Exploring the Wind Tunnel. This is an extraordinary time here as we gear up to investigate flight through various programs around the museum.

CSI: Exploring the Wind Tunnel is an educational program that will take place in SciencePort.  Children and families will make models from a variety of everyday materials and test their models in a wind tunnel. They will be asked to change the design of their craft to meet certain flight challenges. Children will predict how their craft will fly in the final wind tunnel showcase, and this experience supplements the Flight Adventures multi-media show that will debut in the Planetarium next year, too.  This is a family friendly experience as well as a registered school program.

We’ve had several little scientists and engineers put their minds to the test and build some fascinating crafts. You will most likely see us in the mornings trying out our latest eye candy. If you see us, come and explore! We want to see you build, test, and redesign a model to discover the science of flight. Look for the program to “launch” next March of 2012.
