They say that money doesn’t buy happiness and I can confirm that this is true. As an intern in the Volunteer Services Department here at the museum, I've found the most value in the supportive environment created by those who work here.
All the interns came to the museum for different reasons, but we were all drawn to the prestige it holds in the city and the Midwest. Most of us can remember coming here as a kid and the extraordinary experiences from way back when. The thought of working at a place with such a cool reputation that provides so much joy to people in the community is something you cannot pass up. After a few weeks, though, you realize one thing—the museum doesn’t get this reputation all by itself, the museum is great because of the people who come here every day and make it so.
While interning at The Children's Museum, I quickly realized that the people here are willing to help you with whatever you need and truly want to see you get better at whatever you want to do. Whether it’s teaching you how to write a handbook for employees or offering to buy your coffee one day, the enthusiasm and supportive nature of the staff is contagious. Like with any team, the key to that success lies within its members. The staff encourage each other and are always willing to give advice because they want you to improve. They have a desire to see each other succeed...and that is why the museum succeeds. From the moment you walk in and are met with a smile by the greeter in the welcome center you understand that the people here are a team. It’s been so much fun joining this extraordinary team, even if just for 10 weeks.
