But what makes the new Playscape different? Check out the Introduction to Playscape blog post to learn how the re-envisioned space will be just what you’ve been waiting for. Then read on to see what makes The Creek so special!
If your family enjoyed the Water Table in the former Playscape, you’ll LOVE The Creek . . . which also includes a waterfall! Not only will The Creek "Wow!" you when you walk into Playscape, but it will be a favorite spot for your little one to measure, pour, splash, and explore the properties of water.
In addition to the waterfall, the water feature divides into two kid-level creeks designed specifically for toddlers and preschoolers. A variety of toys, containers, and even “real-looking fish” will help children learn about the properties of water and the animal habitat around them. Little hands will become stronger from play with water toys that have children squeezing and squishing, pouring and pulling.
The purpose of The Creek is to foster caring behaviors toward animals and their habitats and encourage children to inquire, investigate, explore and experiment.
Water play helps children develop many critical thinking and motor skills including:
- Beginning awareness of volume
- Soothing sensory exploration
- Eye-hand coordination
- Manipulative skills of lifting, pouring, controlling
- Math and science concepts (heavy/light, empty/full, shallow/deep)
- Investigation
- Balance
- Established position in space
- Risk-taking for confidence building
- Socialization
- Cooperative play
Playscape Tip: Don’t get soaked! Our new custom-made smocks are beautiful natural colors. Be sure to help your child put them on from the front and fasten the Velcro in the back for better coverage!
