Every year since 2005, The Children’s Museum has recognized incredible youth who have impacted their communities with extraordinary service. The Power of Children Awards, inspired by the Power of Children: Making a Difference exhibit, awards these winners with a partial university scholarship to IUPUI, UIndy, or Butler University along with a $2,000 grant to continue their philanthropic projects.
We’re highlighting each winner with a further look into the service projects they’ve built to transform their community. Today’s winner is Chloe Winston, who rocked the vote in her high school by leading voter registrations and legislative education.

- Project: Pike Rock the Vote
Chloe noticed the indifference to voting among her peers. But her opinion? When her peers don’t vote, they give up their right to be heard. And that’s not okay by Chloe.
Chloe took charge in enhancing voter education and motivation in her school and community. She scheduled three public speakers to speak at her high school, handed out voter registration forms, and even set up shop in her local church to provide information and assist in registering voters or updating already registered voters.
She said, “My peers now know how to register to vote and can encourage their friends to register. The same for members of my church...Both groups will become more knowledgeable about government and politics."
Girl Scout Gold Award advisor, Diane Davidson stated that Chloe’s project impacted more than 800 people in and outside of Pike High School.
“In an election year like none other, Chloe’s choice to educate her peers about the voting process helped them make an informed decision and register their votes.”
For the next election, Chloe won’t be a student at her high school anymore. But she will leave it prepared. She’s already worked with other clubs in her school to carry on the support for voter registration and education in the next election. She then intends to use the funds to supplement the cost of more speakers and the production of voter forms and promotional materials. Rock on, Chloe. Rock on.
