Here are five reasons you should renew your membership today
1. You don’t want to miss our temporary exhibits
Part of what makes your experience at The Children’s Museum so remarkable is our always-changing exhibits. Our current temporary exhibits will complete their run soon.
- Dinosaur Train: The Traveling Exhibit is here through July 30—go back in time to the Age of the Dinosaurs and explore the basics of science through fun, hands-on activities
- Minecraft: The Exhibition is open through Aug. 6—explore the limitless possibilities and unleash your creativity in this one-of-a-kind exhibit
New temporary exhibits are on their way, but if you haven’t taken the opportunity to visit these two, you’ll need to do it soon! Remember that with your museum membership, you can visit these exhibits as frequently as you’d like!
2. You can be among the first
Speaking of our temporary exhibits, members get exclusive early-access to our new exhibits. During our Member Previews, you can be among the first to hear powerful stories and witness the jaw-dropping beauty inside Sacred Places in September. And then in November, we’re hosting a Member Preview of WinterFaire—our brand-new winter experience that is destined to become a family-favorite annual tradition.
As a member, you’ll also have the opportunity to be the first to explore The Children’s Museum Guild’s Annual Haunted House at our Member Preview Party—Indy’s biggest and best family-friendly Halloween party with a giant costume contest.
And don’t forget Member Morning Weekends! On the first full weekend of each month, we open the museum an hour early just for you. Renewing your membership will give you another year to be the first to start your day with play–and to do so with smaller crowds
3. You’ll have a year of fun—in any weather
You know how the saying goes:
“If you don’t like the weather in central Indiana, just wait a few minutes.”
Although Mark Twain was talking about New England when he is credited to have said this, people around the country have claimed this quote for their own region—including right here in Indianapolis. Weather in our area can be a bit unpredictable. Sometimes it’s downright unbearable.
Fortunately, our five floors of fun are always open and ready for you—rain or shine! If the weather changes and causes an unexpected disruption to your plans, you can always make a last-minute change and head over to The Children’s Museum for some unplanned, unexpected indoor fun. It’s really that simple for museum members.
In addition to all of the adaptive sports equipment available, we’ve also added many new shaded areas in our outdoor sports wonderland. Your family can play their little hearts out during the dog days of summer and then take a breather in the shade.
4. You can come for the dinosaurs—and stay for more dinosaurs
We know you love your dinosaurs. So do we!
With a daily calendar full of dinosaur-related programs, opportunities to talk to real paleontologists while they work, a creative outlet in the Dinosphere Art Lab, hands-on fossil discovery in the Dig Pit, pretend play in the Dino Egg Nest, and one of the largest displays of juvenile dinosaur fossils around, we have a treasure trove of experiences that will fill the hearts of your dino lovers.
Oh—did we mention you can strike a pose with "Rheta" the feathered Tyrannosaurus rex head sculpture, Dracorex hogwartsia, and Bucky the Teenage T. rex any time you’d like during the museum’s operating hours?
5. You can SAVE more
There’s one more reason you should consider renewing your membership today—savings.
If you’re a current member, you’ll get an automatic $15 discount when you renew your Basic or Basic Plus membership before it expires.
If you’re a Basic or Basic Plus member and choose to upgrade to a Donor membership, you can add a caregiver to your household membership. This is an especially helpful perk during summers and school breaks when a grandparent or sitter wants to visit the museum with your kids!
