Are you an educator or do you homeschool? We want to help by telling you about a very unique place at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis that you might not know about. SciencePort offers registered school, family, and home school programs! Jazz up your science class by using hands-on science with our Biotech Cool Green Tool program. You get a grow kit that includes a light box, grow tubs, seeds, syringes, mystery powders, thermometer, rulers, water, and a lesson plan that [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"40184","attributes":{"class":"media-image","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"275","height":"205","title":"BCGT kit","alt":"BCGT kit"}}]]includes a recording journal for your students!
What do you have to do? First, attend a 90 minute professional development class where you build your light box, receive access to additional online lessons, and get extra tips on how to conduct a successful experiment. If you’re a family or home school, you get to attend with your children and build your light box together! Then take your light box home, do the experiment, and come back to the museum at no charge to show SciencePort staff your results.
We want to help your children gain 21st century skills by using technology to communicate their results. Once back at the museum, you can do one of three multi-media shows: stop-motion animation, a video using a green screen, or a PowerPoint presentation. Once they are finished, we will edit their work, add some special effects, and burn a CD or DVD for you. Then you have a finished piece of work to show off in their student portfolio.
What’s in it for you?
· A complete lesson plan that supports the academic standards
· Step by step instructions for you and your students
· A unit plan that takes a month to complete (all about plants)
· Access to technology that supports science and hands-on learning
· Science materials that you can reuse every year
If you’re still not sure about the project, just come on up to SciencePort on level four in the ScienceWorks gallery. We’re at the top of the red staircase in the back of the gallery. We are open from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and then from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. when the museum is open for business. Please come and do some smaller investigations with us during these times and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about our registered programs. We want to help you have a successful school year and meet any needs that you may have. Got questions now? Email rachela@childrensmuseum.org or call 317-334-3251.
Remember, science is for everybody!
