Conner Prairie

Quiet Spot sign for sensory-sensitive guests at Conner Prairie

Every first Sunday of the month, Conner Prairie hosts sensory-friendly hours from 10 a.m.–noon. During this time, any exhibits that have noise components will be turned off and staff trained in sensory-friendly practices will be on hand for assistance. If a guest is looking for a quiet space during regular hours, Conner Prairie has set up quiet spots throughout the park. These quiet spots are stocked with sensory kits, including a weighted blanket and fidget toys. Learn more here.

Indiana Historical Society

The Indiana Historical Society also has quiet areas available for those who need some time and separation from the main areas. Ask a staff member for the location of these quiet areas.

Indiana Repertory Theatre

Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming experience for all, including those with autism or other sensory sensitivities. Each season, IRT selects a few productions that will include a sensory-friendly performance. Elements of sensory-riendly performances may be adapted to ensure the comfort of all audience members. The IRT produces guides that list sensory intense moments and during the performance staff will hold up glow sticks before an intense moment or technical effect occurs. House Management is able to provide Sensory supports for all performances. For more information click here.

Indiana State Museum

Guests with sensory sensitivities can call the Indiana State Museum for advice on quieter days to visit and where quiet areas are located throughout the museum.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Sensory Resource Guide for sensory-sensitive guests at The Children's Museum of Incianapolis

At the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, guests can request fidget toy kits and noise-reducing headphones at the Concierge Desk. Before you visit, check out the Sensory Resource Guide. The Guide includes a sensory map that indicates areas of the museum that are sensory-heavy and less stimulating. It includes information on exhibits that contain low light, strong smells, and tactile or movement opportunities, as well as those that are bright, quiet and/or loud. You can also find sensory maps at the entry gates and Concierge Desk. A social narrative is available to download to learn more about the museum’s exhibits before you go.

WonderLab

WonderLab provides free noise-reducing headphones for use during visit for any guests.
