NEWS FLASH – it’s time for a great big splash—milk splash! Legends-in-training, prepare to be photographed with the biggest bottle of milk you’ve ever seen.
The rich tradition of celebrating an Indianapolis 500 win by drinking milk at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the inspiration for the Big Spill, a sculpture ready for fans to snap selfies and family photos throughout the month of May at the world’s largest children’s museum. The faux milk sculpture gives the illusion of real dairy product and creates a splash of fun-filled celebration within the Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience. This display honors the longstanding tradition and importance of milk to the Indy 500.
On Monday, May 1, 2023, MEDIA ONLY are invited to visit the world’s largest children’s museum as VIPs from Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) drop off bottles of milk to one of their community partners, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. This drop-off will include Doug Boles (President of IMS), and Allison Melangton (Senior VP of IMS). This is a media event only and is not open to the public. The public is invited to participate in the photo opp. the rest of the month.
The tradition of drinking milk after winning “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” was started by driver Louis Meyer after he won the 1936 race and requested buttermilk to quench his thirst.
The milk drop-off will take place between 1:30-2 p,m, with Allison Melangton, Doug Boles, and Firestone Firehawk.
Then mark your calendars for Memorial Day (the day after the Indy 500) for the second annual Foyt 500! The race, named after A.J. Foyt, gives kids, grownups, and legends-in-training a chance to race pedal cars around the miniature oval as they chase the Tony Stewart Trophy.
All month long, visitors will be invited to take selfies and other photos at the Big Spill. Continuing the tradition of milk as part of the Indy 500 victory celebration, this fun photo opportunity is one racing fans won’t want to miss.
