Celebrate Earth Day at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Did you know Earth Day was created five decades ago? The annual celebration encourages families to protect our planet and make it a safer place to live for future generations. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is joining forces with several organizations around the world in celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will be able to participate in special hands-on activities listed below, as well as learn from local experts about ways to take action in their own communities.

Earth Day Activities made possible by 80 Acre Farms include:

  • Corteva Agriscience: Turn your trash into treasure. We’ll begin with plastic bags and turn them into a fun wristband you can wear, share or trade!
  • Indiana Soybean Alliance: Stop by to create your own soybean necklace. Watch the seed germinate then plant it in your very own garden!
  • Franklin Pest Control: Meet The Bug Squad, check out some live insects and take home native pollinator plant seeds to promote our pollinators.
  • 80 Acre Farms: Experience hydroponic farming and learn how 80 Acres Farms is growing the future of food!
  • Earth Charter Indiana: Civics matters. Write a note to your elected officials about climate action! Also, play our Sorting Game to consider what items you use in your life and what foods you eat that create the most greenhouse gas emissions?
  • IUPUI Earth Sciences: Examine rocks, minerals and fossils, Enjoy  a free fossil giveaway and explore our planet’s history. Then, match Earth materials to products made from them to better understand renewable and non-renewable resources.
  • Office of Sustainability City of Indianapolis: Take the pledge to be a part of the solution. Learn how the city of Indianapolis is taking action to create a sustainable future.
  • Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter Leaves of Progress: Play a spin wheel game while learning about pollinators.
  • Ahimsa: Enjoy an Earth Day competition for kids of all ages! Take action and share how you helped the planet to be entered into a giveaway of our Mindful Mealtime Set.
  • SWE Central Indiana: Explore seismic waves and the science of earthquakes.
  • Ecosystem Jenga: Explore what causes an ecosystem to collapse as you play a familiar game with a twist.
  • Mighty Messages: Create and share a message you want to spread this Earth Day.

Celebrating Earth Day serves as a reminder to everyone that our planet is fragile and there are things everyone can do to protect it. Families are encouraged to continue the fun at home with these Nine Earth Day Activities
