INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 2, 2023) – Alyssa Gaines, 2022 National Youth Poet Laureate, performed some of her poetic pieces from her growing body of work before a crowd during the Black History Month celebration at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis today. This program was made possible by Urban Word and sponsored by Voices Corp.
Visitors also enjoyed other opportunities to celebrate Black heritage and achievements in history, science, art and music through storytelling and special activities listed below.
- Community Artist Showcase: Create collaborative art with multiple local artists including members of The Eighteen Art Collective.
- Community Partner Resource Fair: Discover resources available to the community from a variety of organizations.
- Ashley Nora Visiting Artist Workshop: Join Visiting Artist Ashley Nora to observe the many beautiful components of space and create your own artwork using deep colors from oil pastels!
- Achievements from A to Z: Join Storyteller in Residence Portia Jackson as she highlights the amazing contributions of African-American inventors from A-Z.
