FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (May 28, 2024) – Kick off the month of June with our Juneteenth Jamboree celebration at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The annual event will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, but advance registration is strongly encouraged beginning May 22, 2024, at childrensmuseum.org.
“The community is invited to learn about the history of Juneteenth and experience all the wonderful programming we have planned to celebrate Freedom Day,” said Jennifer Pace Robinson, president, and CEO of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “For more than 30 years, The Children's Museum has been celebrating this important and historic holiday with the goal to inspire children to learn about other cultures and celebrations.”
The museum continues to work with community partners to help share authentic stories that teach the history and significance of Juneteenth. Various activities and experiences include live performances by the Griot Drum Ensemble and the Major Taylor Band. Families can enjoy a special showing of Juneteenth: The Galveston Story, a short documentary film by Sam Collins III and Sam Addington, Juneteenth Story Time with Portia Jackson is always a crowd favorite along with the chance to create art alongside local artists, Amiah Mims and Wavy Blayne including one of our newest visiting artists.
Back by popular demand, visitors will have the opportunity to meet and greet a former Miss Indy Juneteenth and create their own Sashes of Affirmations. Visitors are also encouraged to check out the display of beautiful dresses worn by the past two Miss Indy Juneteenth winners. The gowns will be on display from May 17 through June 30, 2024.
Visitors will also have a chance to leave their mark in the Murals for Justice activity, put their brains to the test with Juneteenth Trivia, get hands-on with the museum’s visiting scientist, shop the community marketplace, plus receive a giveaway while supplies last.
