FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (June 17, 2024)
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is thrilled to welcome the global traveling exhibition, Mandela: The Official Exhibition, which opens June 22, 2024. The immersive exhibit gives visitors the unique opportunity to learn more about the world’s most iconic freedom fighter and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Nelson Mandela. The exhibition is produced and promoted by Round Room Live in partnership with The Royal House of Mandela (RHoM) and RHoM Investments.
The international exhibit is designed to educate, entertain and inspire using many personal belongings, photos, videos and artifacts that have not been seen before outside of South Africa until recently.
“It is an honor to be able to share the inspirational personal life journey of Nelson Mandela,” said Jennifer Pace Robinson, President and CEO of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. “Our visitors can expect to discover the iconic humanitarian, Nelson Mandela. This exhibition offers unique insight into the people, places and events that formed his character and the unbelievable challenges he faced against oppression."
Through a series of immersive zones, each one a dramatically different experience, the narrative takes us on a journey through a remarkable life. It starts off by taking visitors to Mandela’s little-known beginnings in rural Mvezo, Transkei, through decades of turbulent struggle against the Apartheid regime – and why he felt the regime needed to be defeated to his eventual vindication and final years as South Africa’s first black president, ‘Father of South Africa,’ and a globally loved and respected figure. The last section focuses on his passing and legacy after a lifetime of service to others.
Mandela: The Official Exhibition opens at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis on June 22, 2024, and runs until January 20, 2025. This exhibit is recommended for children ages 12 and older. To purchase tickets, visit childrensmuseum.org.
Mandela: The Official Exhibition is presented by OneAmerica.
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is proud to partner with Riley Children’s Health, Old National Bank, Ice Miller LLP and The Heritage Group.
