Families across the country voted and the results are in – proving The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is not only the biggest but the best in a few categories including: tied for Top Regional Vacation Destination in the Midwest, Top Three Science Museums in the nation, and tied for Fourth Overall Vacation Destination by FamilyFun magazine.
Add the fact that the museum is just four miles north of Lucas Oil Stadium, which is where this year’s NCAA Final Four Basketball Tournament will be held and it is Spring Break and two new temporary exhibits - TRANSFORMERS: Robots In Disguise™ and Inside Hollywood Film & TV just opened - and there is plenty to do for the entire family.
Children and families will have a blast competing against each other to see who can twist and turn magical TRANSFORMERS toys into an entirely different being in the first ever hands-on museum exhibit about TRANSFORMERS toys and movies. At the same time, visitors will discover the artistic design and engineering that goes into crafting these beloved action figures. A ‘talking’ Camaro surprises visitors in the parking garage and a limited engagement display of the Optimus Prime semi-truck from TRANSFORMERS: Age of Extinction greets visitors as they enter the building. Encourage the budding actor in your family to join the cast and crew of Inside Hollywood Film & TV: You’re on the Set! There, the whole family can experience the behind-the-scenes secrets of what really happens before the director yells, “Action!” Watch children fly through the air in superhero capes while learning about green screen technology. Or, join the fun as children and families operate a camera, lower the boom (microphone) and direct their own television talk shows.
Discover more extraordinary acting in Lilly Theater with live professional performances of The Paperbag Princess. Based on Canadian author Robert Munsch’s book, this unusual princess story tells the tale of a princess who journeys to save her prince. Still, there is another uncommon twist: they don’t live happily ever after! This unpredictable musical is great for the whole family.
Prep the family for new dinosaur movies coming out this summer with a visit to Dinosphere: Now You’re in Their World. Thundering footsteps, unusual plants, a brilliantly colored sky and changing weather help visitors explore the life of dinosaurs 77 million years ago. The Children’s Museum is home to some of the world’s most rare dinosaur fossils including Leonardo: The Mummified Dinosaur,
Dracorex hogwartsia (the “Dragon King of Hogwarts.” to celebrate Hogwarts, the academy for wizards in the Harry Potter novels), and Bucky the Teenage T. rex.
